What is a dog crate?
A dog crate is an indoor kennel or enclosed bed that gives dogs a safe and secure place to be in for a short amount of time either in the home or when travelling.

Should I use a dog crate?
There are several different opinions on dog crates. Some say they are useful to keep young dogs safe when left alone, that they are a useful way to safely travel with a dog in the car, or that they can be used as a safe space for a pooch to get away from a noisy home. There are some that don’t recommend their use though in all, or any circumstances. No matter what side of the debate, most will agree that they shouldn’t be used to lock up a dog for long periods of time or instead of properly training your pooch or managing any behaviour issues.
What to look for in a dog crate?
Always make sure your pooch has plenty of space in a crate and they can comfortably stand, turn round and snooze in a natural position. It shouldn’t be either draughty or too hot where the crate is placed. You should be able to keep a crate nice and clean, and the material and design of the crate should not be able to damage your dog. Always make sure to follow a crate training plan when starting with a crate too. See this handy dog crate training guide from RSPCA.
If after discussions with your vet, rescue centre and/or a dog behaviourist you want to get a crate for your pup here are some of the options available.
