There are plenty of great dog walks in Durham to choose from but we’ve listed a few below to get your pups tail wagging.
Low Force to High Force
A lovely walk along the river Tees and back. If your pup needs a long walk then this can be a 6K walk but it can be shortened depending how energetic you’re feeling. You’ll be able to take in beautiful scenery as well as enjoying the waterfall - this walk is a mixture of hills and flat paths, and can get muddy so you might need to pack some wellies in winter months.
Stanhope Gate
If you’re a dog walker in Durham looking for a mixture of terrain that your pup can explore, with plenty of tall trees and squirrels to chase, then this is the walk for you. Cafes, pubs and even a Fish and Chip shop can be found if you follow the road back into Middleton-in-Teeside, which make for a nice treat after a long dog walk.
Riverside Park
With ice-creams and drinks available in Summer this is a lovely family friendly park. If you want to walk a dog in Durham away from the hustle and bustle, take the route down by the riverside. The big open spaces here lend themselves to many games of fetch so this is a good place for your pup to run off any excess energy.
Summerhill
If your pup is a sociable so and so, why not head to Summerhill. Popular with dog sitters in Durham, as well as cyclists, runners and even horse riders! There are plenty of places to stop for a picnic if you want to dine al fresco with your pup, but refreshments can be bought en route. All in all a great place to visit for an afternoon walk.
Preston Park
With a nice mix of woodland area as well as grasslands this is a great place for your pooch to explore. There are children’s play areas, free parking and plenty of picnic spots. You will also find water en route if your dog likes to swim, so make sure you pack a towel for those muddy paws.
