Thinking of getting a dog, but don’t want to deal with tons of shedding fur and hair ? Here are the top five dog breeds that shed the least.
Italian Greyhounds
With very short coats, this breed requires little to no grooming. Minimal shedding also means they’re a very low-maintenance breed. Learn more about Greyhounds.
Soft Wheaten Terriers
As a hypoallergenic breed, they only has a single coat. Although they don’t shed, they do need daily grooming. Learn more about Wheaten Terriers.
Malteses
This companion breed is very popular among allergy sufferers. They don’t have an undercoat, but their long fur requires regular attention. Learn more about Malteses.
Portuguese Water Dogs
Even with long coats, they shed very little and are easy to groom. President Obama chose this breed as they are hypoallergenic.
Yorkshire Terriers
They are minimal shedders despite their constantly growing fur. If you choose to keep their coat long, they will require regular grooming. Learn more about Yorkshire Terriers.
Although hypoallergenic dogs can help out some people with allergies as these dogs shed less, some people can be allergic to the dander (skin cells) of the dog, so lower shedding doesn't make much of a difference for them.
